Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Throughout the school year, St. Mary’s offers Children's Liturgy of the Word at 10:00 a.m. Mass for children age 4 through fifth grade.  It has been a gift to the parish and to the families whose children participate in it. Dedicated catechists lead this age-appropriate time for children to understand the Sunday Scriptures and to reflect on how they are called to live the message in their day to day activities.

What happens during the Children's Liturgy of the Word?

After the opening prayer, the Presider calls forward the children and the Children's Ministers and blesses them. The children follow their leader to the school building and assemble in the Multi-Purpose Room where the Sunday Scriptures are read from the Children's Lectionary; included are the Old Testament Reading, Responsorial Psalm, Gospel Acclamation, Gospel Proclamation, Reflection, Creed, and the Prayers of the Faithful. Everyone returns to the assembly during the Presentation of the Gifts as together we continue to celebrate the Eucharist around the table as one family of faith.

We hope you'll consider having your children join us each week for this faith formation opportunity! If you have questions or would like to learn more, please contact our Religious Education Office at (847) 234-0090 or ReligiousEd@churchofstmary.org
