Historical Exhibit

The History Center of Lake Forest-Lake Bluff

Step into 150 years of faith, service, and community as we are “Celebrating Centennial Churches in Our Midst”, commemorating the sesquicentennial of the Church of St. Mary. Hosted at the History Center of Lake Forest–Lake Bluff, this special exhibit features an engaging collection of artifacts, photographs, documents, and personal mementos contributed by past and present parishioners.

From humble beginnings in a log cabin church to the vibrant parish we know today, this exhibit traces the Church of St. Mary’s journey through generations of worship, education, outreach, and spiritual leadership. Visitors will discover how the church has shaped — and been shaped by — the surrounding community since its founding in 1875.

As part of a broader celebration of local faith traditions, the exhibit will also spotlight five other historic congregations, each with over a century of ministry in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff:

  • St. Patrick's Church (est. 1849)

  • First Presbyterian Church (est. 1859)

  • The Union Church (est. 1866)

  • Grace United Methodist Church (est. 1887)

  • First Baptist Church (est. 1900)

  • Church of the Holy Spirit (est. 1902)

Together, these faith communities reflect the spiritual foundations of our towns and the enduring role of religious life in civic and cultural history.

Join us this fall in honoring our shared heritage and the stories that continue to inspire faith and fellowship today.
